About Hartford HealthCare
An unparalleled approach to comprehensive neurological care.
The Ayer Neuroscience Institute at Hartford HealthCare is a rapidly expanding Institute with a focus on comprehensive patient care, academics, and research. Our specialists span the areas of vascular neurology, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular, movement disorders, epilepsy, headache and pain management, neurosurgery, and general neurology. The Institute enjoys the resources of a system committed to excellence in patient quality and experience and an impressive staff of world class Neuroscience leaders. Hartford Hospital, an 867 bed tertiary care academic medical center and the main teaching affiliate for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and HHC flagship hospital, is the highest volume Stroke Center in New England and one of the largest surgical hospitals in the northeast. We also offer six community hospitals and well-resourced clinics throughout the state.
In addition to providing general neurology and advanced neurosurgery, the Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute features seven specialty centers devoted to neuroscience-related care including:
Comprehensive Stroke Center
Hartford Hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Center is the largest stroke center in New England, treating more than 1,000 stroke patients annually. We are the only center in New England to earn the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval.
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Hartford Hospital provides cutting-edge diagnostic procedures and treatment for epilepsy. We utilize state-of the-art epilepsy monitoring units as well as two 3T MRIs. Our program is undergoing significant growth as we prepare to implement our SPECT and intracranial EEG programs, targeting mid 2019 to achieve NAEC level 4 designation.
The HHC Headache Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of unusual headache syndromes. We have access to clinical trials that offer innovative therapies and our collaboration with Harford Hospital’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine team has allowed us to explore new therapies for pregnant women who suffer from headaches.
Hearing & Balance Center
The highly trained team within the Hearing & Balance Center treats patients with chronic hearing and balance conditions, acoustic neuroma, and cholesteatoma. The center also includes a Dizziness Clinic.
The Chase Family Movement Disorders Center
Specialists at the Movement Disorders Center combine diagnostic and therapeutic methods with clinical research, addressing the unique needs of patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
The Pain Center within the Ayer Neuroscience Institute diagnoses patients’ sources of discomfort and provides thorough, goal-oriented plans to minimize pain and restore functionality.
The Sleep Centers use state-of-the-art technology to improve sleep, including hypoglossal nerve stimulation, one-on-one consultation with a board-certified sleep physician, sleep studies, CPAP clinics, home sleep study testing, and hotel-like accommodations, to provide comfort to patients.
